Behind the scenes
Iris Nijenhuis is an Amsterdam based designer with a passion for laser cutting and a wide interest in experimental shapes and structures. Iris tries to extend the value of textile by extracting the essence and adding functionality to the fabric. She uses laser cutting on various materials which results into experimental structures and shapes.
The principal of the Piece by Piece concept is creating small puzzle pieces made of textile. Artificial leather is cut by laser, washed and dried – and then Iris puzzles it together piece by piece into necklaces and bracelets. You can play with the shape of your necklace by removing or adding pieces and create your own unique piece in your favourite colours!
The bracelets come in two sizes: Eeny-Meeny and Miny-Moe. The necklaces come in three sizes: Eeny-Meeny, Miny and Moe. The Superb necklace is the most complex shape, but of course also adjustable if you dare! The earrings are reversible: the front is one colour and the back contains a different coloured puzzle piece which creates a multi coloured look. By using different kinds of textiles, flexible or solid, with or without design, each variation has a unique outcome. Pieces are available in 12 colours and various prints.
